“闭门羹”是指主人拒绝客人进门，俗称让客人吃了闭门羹。那么“闭门”怎么与“羹”联系起来了呢？
这还要从一个故事说起。相传在唐代，有个叫史夙的女子长得非常漂亮，琴、棋、书、画样样精通，于是很多高官子弟和风流才子便纷纷慕名来访，但是很少有人可以见到她，因为她定下了一条规矩：她首先要求客人作-一首诗，只有看中客人的诗文以后，她才愿意与客人见面。如果来访的客人不会作诗，或者献上的诗文没有被她看中，她就叫家里人在门口用--碗羹（就是现在的汤），婉言拒绝客人。时间长了，来访的客人们只要看见了羹，就会明白其中的意思，便主动告辞离开。以羹待客表示婉言拒绝，这样显得客气有礼，不伤和气，人们后来便把这种特殊的羹称为“闭门羹”。
现在“闭门羹”已成了拒绝的代名词。只是现在人们拒绝客人，就只有“闭门”而没有“羹”了。拜访他人时，主人不在，也可自喻吃了“闭门羹”。现在安徽沿江一-带还真有“闭广]羹"这道菜，是用豆腐和鸭肠子做原料熬成的汤，有人吃了这种“闭门羹”后，觉得味道还不错，一传十，十传百，引得很多人专门来尝“闭门羹”。如今，“团门羹”已成为一道安徽的传统名菜。
